With a strong belief in the power of smiles, Gustav Ehrenreich created his cheerful Hoptimist movement in the late 1960s. The goal was to create a figure that served as a constant reminder to remain positive and optimistic. For although the 1960s are often referred to as "The Swinging Sixties," the decade was marked by unrest. Therefore, Ehrenreich's design was a welcome bringer of joy in an otherwise turbulent time.
Bimble and Bumble represent the very first Hoptimists from the designer's hand: a girl in a dress with smiling eyes and an attentive boy with a split on his head. Today, the cheerful Hoptimists are part of Danish design history and bring joy to people all over the world.
