With a strong belief in the power of smiles, Gustav Ehrenreich created his cheerful Hoptimist movement in the late 1960s. The goal was to create a figure that served as an eternal reminder to remain positive and optimistic. For although the 1960s are often referred to as "The Happy Sixties", the decade was marked by unrest. Therefore, Ehrenreich's design was a welcome source of joy in an otherwise turbulent time.
Bimble and Bumble represent the very first Hoptimists designed by the artist: a dress-clad girl with smiling eyes and an attentive boy with a parting on his head. Today, the cheerful Hoptimists are a part of Danish design history and bring joy around the world.
